On 7 May 2026, the final open access version of the position paper “The need to increase support for healthy ageing and longevity research in the EU by establishing a Coordination and Support Programme on Healthy Ageing and Longevity” was published in the scientific journal Mechanisms of Ageing and Development.
BABA is among more than 100 organizations across the European longevity field that have officially endorsed the position paper and have a representative as a coauthor, making it the most widely supported position paper for longevity promotion in Europe. This important advocacy effort was spearheaded by our partners at the International Longevity Alliance (ILA), especially by our colleague Ilia Stambler.
Alongside our partners, we plan to continue leveraging this position paper to advocate for favorable policies for longevity R&D, education, public engagement, and investment in Europe and internationally.
Announcements:

On 30 March 2026, BABA was officially admitted as a member of the International Longevity Alliance (ILA) — an organization that is committed to actively facilitating faster development and implementation of life-extending technologies to ensure healthy longevity for all.
ILA currently has over 80 member organizations from 66 countries that are coordinating their efforts across the following areas:
- Initiating and developing ILA’s research projects and facilitating research projects by other teams and institutions in the areas of biology of ageing and the development of geroprotective drugs, therapies and diagnostic methods;
- Facilitating professional networking within the research community, building connections with decision makers in business and the public sectors to join forces all over the world to develop and implement therapies to control biological ageing;
- Initiating public dialogue to improve regulation of fundamental and translational research to prevent and treat the degenerative ageing processes, as well as developing proposals to amend regulation at the national and global levels;
- Broadly disseminating the most up-to-date information on research into the biology of ageing and the development of promising geroprotective drugs, therapies, and diagnostic methods.
By becoming part of this global network, BABA is expanding its opportunities for collaboration with like-minded organizations and increasing its visibility and impact in the longevity community and beyond.
Stay tuned for joint projects we undertake together with fellow ILA members!

On 13 December 2025, BABA members gathered at the cosy "Sun Moon" restaurant in Sofia for the organisation's first social gathering.
Those present included two of BABA's founders, Alexander Tchernev and Kamen Shoylev, as well as new members who had joined BABA over the previous months.
The gathering was an opportunity for new introductions, sharing experiences, and, of course, discussing longevity topics of all kinds, ranging from hobbyist biohacking to strategies for developing BABA's initiatives. The atmosphere was warm and friendly, and attendees enjoyed the healthy and delicious food and drinks offered by the venue.
The event ended with a promise of future meetings, events, and projects that will continue to strengthen the BABA community.

On 11 October 2025, BABA was officially launched during the "Forever Young" Longevity Fest at Sofia Tech Park.
Dr. Maria Marinova, one of our founders, delivered a presentation titled "Unlocking the Biology of Aging: A Breakthrough for Science," in which she introduced BABA and our goals to the hundreds of attendees. Maria closed her talk with a call to action: together, we can turn Bulgaria into a centre for longevity, and she invited the audience to get in touch with BABA if they wanted to be part of this meaningful effort.
We thank everyone who reached out after the presentation and applied for membership in BABA. We look forward to working together to achieve longer and better lives.
